Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), KIIT University celebrated “International Midwives’ Day” on 5th May 2017 on the theme “Midwives, Mothers and Families: Partners for life”. It was organized by the department of O &G Nursing and pediatric Nursing of KINS, KIIT University.

The programme was started by Mrs. Annie Priscilla, programme officer, jphiego and with the training of faculties of KINS on different Skill i.e. plotting of partograph, active management of 3rd stage of labor and neonatal resuscitation.

The formal inauguration was held at 12 noon by respected dignitaries, Welcome address was given by Prof. (Mrs) Amrita Lenka, prinicipal KINS which was followed by the keynote address given by Mrs. Suchismita Sahoo, Assistant Professor, KINS. Prof. Jyotin Kumar Dash, Principal KIMS, shared his personal experiences and the importance of Midwives in managing critical situation. (Major Gen) Dr. P.K Patnaik, Medical Superintendent, PBMH emphasized on development of midwifery practice on his talk. Prof. (Dr.) S.K Rath, HOD of O&G highlighted the contribution of midwives in reducing MMR & IMr. Mrs. Susama sahu, nursing superintendent, shared the exiting practices of midwifery in India. Post lunch, the scientific session was started at 3.30 PM with skill stations for the 3rd year B.Sc (Nursing) and GNM students. The students were divided into groups (comprising of 20 student each) observed various skill stations. The First skill station “Plotting of partograph” was demonstrated by Mrs. Anusuya Behera, Tutor, KINS. The second skill station on “Active Management of third stage of labor” was demonstrated by Mrs. Pramila Baxla, Assistant Professor, KINS. The third skill station on “Neonatal Resuscitation” was demonstrated by Ms. Purnima Sahoo, Assistant Professor, KINS. The programme was concluded at 5 PM with vote of thanks given by Prof. (Mrs.) Niyati Das, Vice Principal, KINS, KIIT University.
