The department of General Surgery, KIMS organized a live operative workshop on different modalities of modern treatment for inguinal hernia under the leadership of Prof Dr. P.S.Pujari on 28 OCT 2018 at Dental Auditorium, Campus-5. The workshop was inaugurated by Maj. Gen. Dr. P.K.Patnaik, Principal, KIMS and Director School of Medicine, in the presence of Dr. B.M.Khadanga, President ASI Odisha state chapter. The objective of this live workshop is to know the value of Laparoscopy & Open Hernia Repair (OHR) by Bilayer Mesh Hernioplasty using PHS in the general hospital setting of rural areas. In the workshop two open hernia repairs with PHS (Prolene Hernia System) were performed by Prof Dr. P S Pujari and team and one laparoscopic hernioplasty (TAPP) was performed by Prof Dr. Amaresh Mishra and team. The workshop was moderated by Prof. Dr. B.B. Mishra, General Surgery, S.C.B. Medical College, Cuttack and Prof. Dr. S.K.Panigrahi, General Surgery, KIMS. It was attended by many renowned surgeons, post graduate students of different medical colleges from Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. Different modalities of modern hernia surgery were discussed vividly and the need of selecting ideal operations for different types of patient was given priority by the experts. We described our experience of the various presentations, treatment outcome of patients with inguinal hernia operated by both Laparoscopy & Open method at KIMS. The advantages & disadvantages of both Laparoscopy & Open Inginal Hernia Repair were discussed in detail by the delegates.
