World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every year from August 1 – 7 to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies around the world. Department of Community Medicine, KIMS observed the week and organised a series of events around the theme - “Breastfeeding: Foundation for Life”. Programmes started with counselling of pregnant and lactating women of the slums on the importance of breast feeding. Problems faced by mothers were addressed. A poster competition was organised at Maharshi Womens College and quiz competition at FR High School, Chandrasekharpur for spreading the awareness among the adolescent girls. A rally was organised to spread awareness on the importance of breast feeding among general public. The programme ended on August 7 with a meeting with the women of the slums under Urban Health and Training Centre. Prof. J. K. Dash, Principal, KIMS, Prof. B. C. Das, Advisor and Prof. O. P. Panigrahi, HOD Community Medicine graced the occasion and offered their valuable advice to the urban folks. On the occasion, prizes were distributed to the winners of poster and quiz competitions. All the faculties including Dr. Alpana Mishra, PGs and staff of the Department contributed to make the programme a grand success.
